The Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture is proud to celebrate John Samura, an alumnus of the University of Maryland's Extension Education Program, who is featured in AGNR Momentum Magazine for his inspiring journey and growing impact in international agricultural development. As a future leader focused on the social dimensions of global agriculture, Samura's work highlights how Extension Education empowers professionals to foster behavior change, strengthen communities, and advance sustainable agricultural practices.

Reflecting on his experience at UMD, Samura shared,"Colby encouraged me to apply to the Extension Education Master's Program at UMD. This program opened my eyes to how Extension can affect behavior change in communities."

He also emphasized the value of experiential learning through the Global FEWture Alliance fellowship, noting,"I received a one-year fellowship, two weeks of which I spent in Tanzania, where I looked at the three interdependent sectors of food, energy, and water in real-world scenarios."

Samura's achievements exemplify the mission of Extension Education: developing leaders who bridge research, education, and community engagement to address global agricultural challenges and improve livelihoods around the world.
