• Testing of wheat and barley cultivars (Wheat and Barley in Maryland Webpage)
• Development of soft red winter wheat cultivars adapted to the mid-Atlantic region with increased resistance to Fusarium head blight as well as resistance to other major diseases using marker-assisted selection.
• Genetics of natural antioxidants and other bioactive compounds in wheat.
• Screening hulless barley for fuel ethanol production (http://www.psla.umd.edu/extension/crops/wheat/2005AgroEcoFinal.pdf).
• Development of head blight resistant germplasm for Argentina.
• Development of wheat cultivars for cover crop use.
