Air Pollution Exposure System

Location: Research Greenhouse Complex

This lab is a state of the art air pollution exposure system consisting of 8 continuous stirred reaction chambers (CSTR). Each chamber consists of a cylinder frame covered with clear plastic. The diameter is 1.3 m with a height of 1.6 m with a low speed fan in the center at the top. The chambers are supplied charcoal filtered air from a central blower with treatment gasses being injected at the entrance ports on the bottom of the chambers. Plans for this facility include studying of the toxic effects of ozone on soybean cultivars and using the facility to study the impact of rising CO2 levels on pesticide degredation in soils.
