H. J. Patterson Hall

H. J. Patterson Hall is beautiful historic building that is a campus landmark with a distinctive cupola at its top, located in the center of campus at the summit of one of the highest hills on the campus. It is now home to some of the Crop Science faculty of PSLA. Research labs were renovated in 2001 to provide state of the art facilities in the portion of the original structure which was built in 1935. A newer wing along the north edge of the Campus Mall was added to the building in 1966.

H. J. Patterson Hall is also home to one of the biggest collections of soil monoliths (preserved soil profiles) in the USA. These monoliths represent soils from across Maryland, with some from elsewhere in the USA as well. The monoliths are housed in display cabinets that adorn the walls of the halls of the basement floor with an older (historical and geographically arranged) collection in the old wing of the building and with newer displays, added in 1994, in the newer wing of the building.
